LGFW day 3- Gaudet
Luxurious outerwear at its best. Photos: Jayme Quinn
Toronto fashion week goers fell in love, or rather felt in love with Gaudet, the brainchild of partners Norm Gaudet and Gio Koniashvili, which debuted today at LGFW. This is the first time they put on a runway show. They’re all about the fuzzy fabric, which they mixed with other fabrics in bright colours and slim silhouettes for their latest outerwear collection.
In a fashion season that is generally dominated by sombre black and darkness, the theme of the show was spring flowers. “We really wanted to bring colour into winter. We went from where Gio is from, Georgia, to Canada and we were walking by the flowers. And we thought ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to have that all year?’” he said backstage.
Another feature of this collection is that they make all of their own fabrics. The base of the fabrics is wool, and then all of the accents on the coats–the flowers, the swirls–are silk.
“It takes about a week to make the fabric,” Gaudet said. “…per piece.”
For those seeking a piece of Gaudet, plans are still tentative. A few stores in Regina and Ontario have shown interest in selling the label.
“All we can say is you will see us in Canada in the fall,” Gaudet said.
Our heartfelt gratitude at Toronto Styles goes out to them for creating such beautiful pieces.
